Even though Val and Joey met seven years ago at a party, their love seemed as if it were just beginning when they were married January 31, 2015.
On her wedding day, Val wore a lace strapless gown with a silver beaded belt. Her hair was worn in an up-do finished with a lace edged mantilla. Her bridesmaids wore deep plum gowns with silver belts and carried bouquets of white roses, orchids, and baby’s breath. Joey donned a black tuxedo with white shirt and black tie to marry the love of his life. His groomsmen were dressed the same. The couple chose to be married indoors where the altar was decorated with a gold, glittery AMOR sign. Candles burned around the sign. The ceremony included a Mexican coin ceremony in which the bridegroom presents 13 coins, blessed by the priest or deacon, to the bride as a symbol of his pledge to care for her and the home they will build together. Her acceptance means she will work with her husband to care for all in need. A lasso ceremony was also performed where a rope is placed in a figure eight around the bride and groom’s shoulders – the infinity symbol – after the couple has exchanged their vows to symbolize their everlasting union.
During the reception a Mariachi band played and Mexican cookies were served. Signature drinks included ‘The blushing bride,’ or tequila sunrise and ‘The golden groom,’ or jack and coke.
Speeches included the best man talking about his memories with Joey and the three things Joey did before Jake’s wedding. The made of honor told friend and family who the couple met.
Husband and wife danced their first dance to Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran. Afterwards Val and her father danced to My Wish by Rascal Flatts before Joey and his mother danced to Lynard Skynard’s Simple Man.
Favors were mints labeled mint to be, but those weren’t quite as delectable as the five-tiered wedding cake with alternating tiers of champagne and white fondant with white ruffles and detailing. Congratulations Val and Joey. May your prosper in wealth, love and health. We wish you the best.
